(Synopsis)

The opening of the newest show at the Sybille Mang Gallery in Lindau features works by seven of their permanently represented female artists. Under the title of "Power Women, on and behind the Canvas", this impressive show opened April 20th and will run till July 31st. The artists showing are: Jennifer Fitzgerald (Ireland), Marcella Lassen (Switzerland), Eva Kunze, Marina Sailer, Silke Sautter-Walker, Lucia Schautz and Jolanta Szalanska (all from Germany).

Seven women artists show their individual perspectives on feminine art

Courageous and intrepid, innovative, unconventional and full of joie de vivre is how the women artists of the show present themselves in their work, which includes paintings, collage and photography.

"Last year we were especially successful with the work of our female artists," commented the Gallery Manager, Andrea Dutton-Kölbl. Though these professional artists thankfully can attest to a general acceptance of their work, as opposed to their female predecessors in centuries gone by, nonetheless all seven women agreed that their success depended on hard work, commitment and an iron will.

Her credo has always been: never give up!, an indispensable mindset on the road to success.

... Marcella Lassen, an American artist who works and lives in Switzerland, attests to prevailing against the general belief that art is an ungainful occupation relentlessly leading to impoverishment. Her credo has always been: never give up!, an indispensable mindset on the road to success. In the course of her unwavering commitment to art, she has created surprisingly humoristic portrayals of people in a body of work which can be classified as belonging to the Pop Art Style. One such work in the show is of Queen Elizabeth II, entitled “H.M.”, in which the upper portion of the sovereign’s face has been omitted, but she remains unfailingly discernible through her characteristic accessories, namely brooch, gloves and hat.

Consistency, ambition, curiosity and courage to go down unknown paths

Monique Würtz, Editor-in-Chief of the "Kultur am Bodensee" Magazine held the opening laudation and complimented the women artists on their "marked and authentic path characterized by each of their individual, philosophical standpoints." "Consistency, ambition, curiosity and courage to go down unknown paths" are qualities attributable to all seven artists. The great variety evident in the different exponents—everything from abstract work, serigraphy to masterly oil painting—ultimately remains the most fascinating aspect of this show.
